8 Fall & Halloween Books for Kids & Babies

Here are a few fall and Halloween books we’re enjoying now that the most wonderful time of the year is here! I’ll start with the books that would be appropriate for kids and in a classroom setting first and then share some that are more for babies.

  1. Stumpkin by Lucy Ruth Cummins. I don’t know how, but I somehow never read this book when I was in the classroom! It’s really poignant and very cleverly illustrated too.

  2. The Little Kitten by Nicola Killen. This book has gorgeous illustrations! I don’t think the plot is anything extraordinary, but the illustrations would be great for teaching about how illustrations can create a mood.

  3. The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming. Sourcebooks sent me this one, and it’s SO cute and fun! It’s about an outraged squirrel who thinks his fall leaves are getting stolen. The illustrations are really charming and there are lots of visual jokes and details.

  4. The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll. I LOVED this book as a kid and the plot recently came back to me, but I couldn’t remember the title. I had to google “mouse pumpkin” which was thankfully enough to find it! Maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I think this is the coziest book!

  5. Eek! Halloween by Sandra Boynton. This is a board book so definitely more for younger kids, but cute and fun like all Sandra Boynton books!

  6. Spooky, Spooky, Little Bat. Moving into baby/toddler books now! This is one of those books with a built-in finger puppet which definitely keeps little ones engaging! Frida is mesmerized by these books!

  7. Baby Touch and Feel Halloween. No plot, this is purely for the textures! Frida loves the page with a wizard with a curly beard she can tug on.

  8. You’re My Little Pumpkin Pie by Natalie Marshall. This whole book series is the sweetest! They always end with some form of good night, so they’re perfect for bedtime or before naps.
