Make a Custom Classroom Rainbow Sign

Inspired by all the projects on Instagram, I made a classroom sign for one lucky teacher to match my Plant Theme Classroom Decor Bundle! The great thing about this project is that you can customize it however you like to match your classroom, or even a nursery or kid’s room!

Instructions:

  1. Decide on your paint colors (I used my plant theme decor as inspiration) and carefully paint your rainbow. Light colors may need a few coats. I initially thought I would use masking tape to create neater lines, but I found it really difficult to use the tape on the narrow pieces of wood, so I just freehanded it. If you’re creating any layer designs, like the black speckles on mine, you’ll of course want to let your background color dry before adding anything on top.

  2. To add your name or another word, create a file in Cricut Design Space with the word. I chose to use cursive so that the word would be all in one piece. Make sure you click “weld” on your word so that the pieces aren’t cut out separately. I recommend using a thick cursive font to avoid breakage.

  3. Cut your design out of chipboard using your Cricut Maker. This was my first time using chipboard, and be warned that it takes quite a while, at least using the Cricut Maker (I know the Maker 3 is faster!). I actually left mine cutting overnight since it took a few hours.

  4. After cutting your word out of chipboard, paint it your desired color.

  5. Attach your word to your sign using craft glue. My word did break in a few places during cutting, so I had to get a little creative with placement to make sure the full word was attached.

  6. Hang up your finished creation!
